FAQs

Vanillin & Ink: FAQs

  • When do you update the website? Vanillin & Ink is updated on Wednesdays, save for special occasions or holidays. Additional posts will sometimes show up throughout the week based on my schedule, but you can rely on Wednesdays as the set date for new content!

  • Where do you get your cover images? Generally, I find them through the author's website; however, if a book is sent for review, it is not uncommon that they email an image for use in a review.

  • Are you paid for positive reviews? No! I will never accept payment for positive reviews; I find it unethical.

  • What camera do you use?  On most days, I use a Nikon D5000. Sometimes, though, for various reasons (or in some of my older posts), I use a Canon PowerShot SD1200IS (I have the "blue" model, for anyone that's interested in knowing). I don't generally specify which camera is in use, but there is a fairly stark contrast between the end products. Generally speaking, I use my little Canon camera for food reviews on-the-go.

  • Where are you based? I live and run Vanillin & Ink and The Powdered Plum out of my apartment in Louisville, KY.

  • What do you use to edit your pictures? Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, I don't do much editing at all as far as pictures go. However, when I do edit pictures (to add a watermark or add rounded corners), I use a copy of Photoshop CS4. Not many pictures are taken for this blog, but I like to include it since my other blog is so heavily based in photography.

  •  How do you decide what to read next? I largely work off of my too-full bookshelf at home. However, if I'm offered or request a copy for review, that obviously goes to the top of my list.

  • May I use excerpts from this blog? Unauthorized use and/or duplication of anything found on this website/blog without my express and written permission is strictly prohibited. You're welcome to use excerpts or to link back, but full and clear credit must be given to Vanillin & Ink. Now-a-days, especially online, it's so easy to lose your intellectual property, and, considering the time and effort (and money!) I put into each individual post, it's not something I'm entirely comfortable with allowing. That being said, if you have any questions, you can always feel free to email me.

  • Can I contact you with review requests or business inquiries? Currently, yes! My schedule is pretty open right now, so feel free to send in either to beth@powderedplum.com. I'm happy to accept products for review or offers, but please be aware that I will not feature anything on my website that I do not personally believe in or wouldn't consider paying for myself.

  • Are you planning on ever doing book vlogging? Perhaps one day! I'm not actively considering it at this time.

  • What are the names of your cats? Daggett, Chandler, and Pazuzu <3
